Insomnia and Spreadsheets

I participated in NaNoWriMo last year, and while I didn’t make the goal of 50,000 words, I got a lot out of it. It was the first time I consistently worked on the same story, rather than starting a story and abandoning it, or working on individual blog posts. I was surprised by how often that word count goal kept me writing, even when I felt stuck. I wrote more consistently that month, and that alone was a win.

So last night as I stared unblinkingly at the ceiling instead of sleeping, I realized that I should make a word count spreadsheet immediately. And then maybe I should research hair straighteners and learn how to make really good shadow puppets. But first the spreadsheet.

Realistically, because I won’t be able to take the entire month of November off of school, I’ll probably fall short of the goal this year too. But, I feel confident I can beat last year’s word count. And I think after that, 2015 will be my year. I’ll be done with school, and hopefully working. After my current school hours, I think a nine to five will feel like a vacation.
